WHAT IS IT?

99designs.com is a platform for clients who require design work. It works similar to an auction-house, except that they’re “selling” money, and freelancers are paying for it with designs.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Clients: The client selects one of four packages, namely Bronze, Silver, Gold, and platinum. Each package gives more benefits than the previous one, but each also costs more. The higher up the client goes, the more designs they receive, and the better quality the designs will be. The client describes what they’re wanting (such as a header for their website that must include a picture of a lion and a catchphrase). The proposal becomes a competition then, with the prize (aka payment) going to the design that the client chooses. Once chosen, the client awards the prize to the designer, and receives the full copyright to the design, which they can then download and use. If the client finds a designer that they like, they can hire them again.

Freelancers: To join as a designer, one needs to register, and enter as many competitions as they can. The more that they win, the better their ratings will be, which will place them in higher work brackets, which in turn will give them opportunities to enter higher-paying competitions.

WHO IS IT FOR?

This website is for clients that want a range of designs to choose from before they pay, and for designers that want more experience and money.
